The Alberta Government is updating the Motor Vehicle System (MOVES).

The governments objective is to update the current system so it can interface with other more modern applications. This update is a first step in providing more motor vehicle services online. A plan which should improve service for Albertans in the future. To complete the updates, a system shutdown will occur and is tentatively planned for Feb. 14-17, 2020.

The AMTA was informed all motor vehicle services, including driver’s licence applications/renewals, vehicle registration/renewals, and knowledge and road tests, won’t be conducted or processed during this time.  Ignition interlock installs, removals and licence reinstatement services will also be unavailable.

The AMTA was informed MOVES access for law enforcement will be maintained through Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC).
